Wellspring New Martinsville

Counseling services used to be offered only in offices and clinics, but now residents of Wetzel and Tyler counties can receive help in a more comfortable and convenient setting:  in school, at home, or in the relaxed home-like setting of the Wellspring office. For more than 15 years, Wellspring Family Services’ home and community-based program has been a part of the New Martinsville area, striving to restore stability to families by providing out-patient specialized treatment and counseling to those who need it.

Located in a cozy home-like setting to help consumers of all ages feel comfortable and safe, Wellspring's office on Route 2 is a part of a Community Home-Based Program of Crittenton Services, Inc. In the office, as well as at home and in schools, Wellspring therapists help adults and children cope with depression and anxiety, physical and sexual abuse, stress management, neglect issues, marital/couple issues, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), parenting concerns, school issues, and gambling addictions.
Wellspring therapists offer a wide range of services, including comprehensive assessment, individual, family and group therapy, supportive counseling, case management, behavior modification, parent education, and 24-hour crisis intervention. Also offered are group therapy programs to address self-esteem and healthy relationships for teens, and anger management programs for adults.

Counseling services are offered in schools, at homes, or in the relaxed home-like setting of the Wellspring office.

Originally created to provide home-based case management, parenting education, and
counseling to children and their families transitioning from the residential program, Wellspring has grown to meet community needs. Since its development in the 1980s, Wellspring has become essential to the Crittenton mission to "embrace children and families in need with nurturing services to help them achieve self sufficiency."

Getting help from Wellspring is as easy as a phone call, but the service accepts referrals not only from individuals, but also from schools, pediatricians, other physicians, probation officers, Department of Health and Human Services and other community agencies. Wellspring provides Socially Necessary Services, which may include individualized parenting, supervised visitation and reunification services to maintain family permanency and structure for families involved with the Department of Health and Human Resources.

All Wellspring therapists have master’s degrees and are licensed in their fields and the New Martinsville staff has extensive experience in the mental health field:  Site Director Liz Harshberger, 25 years experience; Paula Swartzmiller, eight years of experience; Ken Nice, six years; and Lori Wallace, one year.  Newer to the staff are Mindy Nice and Katrina Swiger. Psychological services, such as testing and diagnosis confirmation, are provided by Licensed Psychologist Josalyn Ice. Administrative Assistant Sherry Duke assists with prompt scheduling and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
