Counseling services used to be offered only in offices and clinics, but residents of
Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Taylor and now Doddridge counties can receive help in a more comfortable and convenient setting: in school, at home, or in the relaxed atmosphere of the Wellspring office. For almost 20 years, Wellspring Family Services’ home and community-based program has been a part of the north central West Virginia area, striving to restore stability to families by providing out-patient specialized treatment and counseling to those who need it.
For individuals and families experiencing difficulties in coping with life’s challenges, help is a phone call away. Wellspring offers a wide variety of psychological services, including individual, family and group therapy, supportive counseling, case management, behavior modification, juvenile mediation, parent education, testing and diagnosis confirmation, and 24-hour crisis intervention. It even offers some specialized help, such as for problem gambling.
Located at 165 Scott Avenue in Morgantown, the office is one of five Wellspring locations and is led by Site Director Nancy Graham. Wellspring's office is located in a spacious, newly-remodeled handicapped-accessible office with plenty of free parking and conveniently located just off the interstate. Office hours at the location are from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Extended evening hours are also available as needed. For those who would prefer not to travel to the office, a Wellspring staff member can travel directly to the home of anyone within the service area.
The Wellspring staff members have extensive experience in the mental health field; all have master’s degrees and are fully-licensed. In addition, Psychologist Dr. Roy Tunick provides clinical consultation services.
The problems most often addressed with Wellspring consumers include depression and anxiety in adults and children, physical and sexual abuse, stress management, neglect issues, marital/couple issues, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), parenting concerns, school issues, and gambling addictions. The office also offers group therapy to address self-esteem and healthy relationships for teens and anger management for adults.
Wellspring is a provider of socially necessary services which may include individualized parenting, supervised visitation and reunification services to maintain family permanency and structure for families involved with the Department of Health and Human Resources. Referrals for Wellspring services are obtained from the DHHR, all county schools, doctors' offices, as well as self-referral.
Wellspring accepts payment for services with the WV medical card, a variety or private insurances and self-payment. For more information on services offered by the Morgantown office of Wellspring Family Services, call 304- 292-1716 or toll-free, 1-800-280-2229.
Since the 1980s, Wellspring Family Services has been a valued community outreach division of Florence Crittenton Services, Inc. The program was originally created to provide home-based case management, parenting education, and counseling to children and their families transitioning from the residential program.
Since that time, Wellspring, with offices in Wheeling, Weirton, New Martinsville and Morgantown, has become essential to the Crittenton mission to "embrace children and families in need with nurturing services to help them achieve self-sufficiency."
