Soup Shack Wins Crittenton Soup Cook Off

The Soup Shack owner Frank Warren is the winner of the annual Crittenton Services, Inc. Soup and Salad Luncheon's Best Soup award. The event was held on October 12, 2011 and featured a soup cook off at which eight local restaurants participated, including The Soup Shack, Oglebay Resort , Ruttenbuck's, Grill Metropolitan Citi Grill, Coleman's Fish Market, Ye Olde Alpha, River City Ale Works and Cafe Burress.

Approximately 400 people attended the luncheon and each attendee had a vote. Warren's The Soup Shack won with a delicious Italian wedding soup recipe.

Warren began cooking at the age of three when he practiced the art using his play dough. He has continued cooking throughout his life and has prepared meals for celebrities such as Newt and Callista Gingrich , Bobby Bowden, and Peter Marshall.

After living in Roanoke, Va., Warren decided to return to his hometown Wheeling and in November 2009 opened The Soup Shack, located in the Upper Market House in Center Wheeling. His business offers salads, sandwiches and delicious homemade soups. Warren takes a great deal of pride in his recipes which were passed to him from his mother, father and grandmother. "The most important thing is to serve a quality product of which my family would be proud," said Warren.

Crittenton's Soup and Salad Luncheon raised more than $6,000 this year. That money will be used to offer activities, special events and gifts to the young women in Crittenton's Residential Program.
