What’s green, wicked and wears a pointed hat? The answer is the witch from Oz in “Wicked,” which is the theme of Crittenton Services’ annual fundraising gala, “Paint the Town Pink,” scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, March 27 at the Wheeling Artisan Center.
Now in its seventh year, Paint the Town Pink is a highly-anticipated evening of exquisite cuisine, socializing, music, and dancing.  This year’s theme, “Wicked in Pink,” is inspired by the Broadway musical “Wicked.” The event’s major sponsor is Wheeling Hospital.

Committee members have been gathering to plan and prepare the evening. Among the features for guests to enjoy will be the extraordinary dining fare prepared by Rocco Basil, with food stations offering a variety of gourmet dishes. The band Redline will perform a wide variety of music throughout the evening for dancing, dining and listening. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a silent and live auction featuring unique, locally donated items and services. In addition to that, a raffle will be offered for an unforgettable excursion to Broadway to see the musical “Wicked.”  The winner of the raffle, valued at $2500, needs not be present.

Despite the concept behind the party, there is nothing wicked about Crittenton Services’ mission. The locally-operated nonprofit agency has been helping transform the lives of young women in the Wheeling area since 1895. Formerly known as the Florence Crittenton Home, the agency has evolved from its initial identity as one of Charles Crittenton’s homes for “wayward” women.

Today, the agency embraces children and families in need with nurturing services to help them achieve self sufficiency through its residential program and its outpatient programs under the Wellspring Family Services banner. It also operates the Cradles to Crayons Childcare Centers and an Intensive Educational and Outpatient Treatment Program for adolescent girls in Ohio County.

“Crittenton continues to grow and change to meet the needs of our community,” explained Kathy Szafran, president and CEO of Crittenton Services.  While some of the services are funded through Medicaid, insurances and fees, this funding falls far short of the agency’s financial needs. “Paint the Town Pink is our major fundraising event and it is vitally important to the fiscal health of this agency. The support and generosity of our sponsors and guests at Paint the Town Pink make it possible for us to continue to make a positive impact in the lives of the children and families we serve.”

Paint the Town Pink Committee members include Rose Potts, Bethany Romanek, Belinda Phillips, Judi Hendrickson, Kathy Szafran, David Miller and Tracee Chambers.
Tickets are available for purchase at $75.00 for singles and $150.00 for a couple.  For additional information about Crittenton Services and Paint the Town Pink, contact Butch Maxwell at 304 242-7060, or visit www.FlorenceCrittenton.net
